An overall view of the framed up plane. The plane is all laser cut and frames up very quickly. The plane has working cabin doors that give easy access to the battery and servos....no hatches required.
I made the stab so that it's separated from the fuselage sides like the full scale plane. I also made the fin fair into the fuselage like the real plane. It's not just a slab of wood braced with some nasty triangle stock.

A detail shot of the wing landing light area. Here you can see the way the laser cut parts interlock to make up the leading edge. Both the leading a trailing edges are built in this way. The ribs
are aligned automatically.... in fact, I built the prototype without a full size plan to work over.
(The kit will come with a full size plan)

This photo shows how the fuselage is built using a combination of lite ply interlocking parts and stick building. This results in a light weight but very strong structure.  It's also very quick and easy to build... again no full sized plan is required.

(The kit will come with a full size plan)

I took the completed, covered airframe to the Post Office to get an accurate weight. This prototype weighs 49 ounces! That's with no radio equipment, wheels, motor, mount, speed control or battery. I wanted give an airframe only weight so you could add in the weights of your own components and come up with what your version would weigh.

This photo shows the plane prior to being decorated. This allows you to see the stringers along the fuselage sides better and the way the stab is built. You can also see how the fin is faired into the fuselage. Notice how you can see through the "roof" window. I wanted to show how the plane was not stripped of all detail in the interest of making it light.

Ed Lokken's Super Cub makes a lazy pass overhead. I think Ed is the first customer to get one in the air.
Beautiful job, Ed!

Ed is running a MEC 36/40 brushless motor with a MEC 4.67:1 gearbox and 12 GP3300 cells.
14 x 7 APC e prop.

The scene at the flying field on Saturday June 5/04. Three Page Aviation Super Cubs were in attendance. I'm on the left with my new electric version. Michel Faizandier is in the middle with his clear, clipped wing OS .90 4 stroke powered monster. Brian Laker is on the right with his nicely done example. You can make out some of the wing improvements and the changes made to the stab on the new electric one.

I thought it was about time a giant scale electric Cub was made available, so I designed this Super Cub as an electric only kit. (Actually, it would make an ideal glow conversion.)
Now there is no need to convert a glow plane into a mediocre flying electric. This Cub builds really light and there
is tons of room inside for as many cells as you need. My prototype weighs 98 oz. ready to fly. I'm carrying 10 GP 3300 nmhi cells and a small reciever battery. It should be possible to shed 12 to 14 oz. by switching to Lipoly cells. That would get this 80" Super Cub below 5 1/2 pounds!!

I'm running my Super Cub with an Astro 05 (brushed) with a MEC gearbox geared 3.3:1 and an APC 12x 8  prop on 12 GP 3300 cells. The take off run is brisk and short with a steep climb out. This setup will easily loop (really big, round ones) from level flight 6 or 7 minutes into the flight. Rolls are slow (it's a Cub) but it can do knife edge!
